George David Gopen's Reader Expectation Approach

This channel contains a variety of content from George David Gopen, JD, PhD, Professor Emeritus in the Practice of Rhetoric at Duke University and creator of the Reader Expectation Approach (REA) to professional writing. Reader expectations are structural assumptions readers bring to every sentence and paragraph. Understanding what a reader expects lets a writer place information where it's anticipated, controlling how readers interpret meaning. Dr. Gopen has trained tens of thousands of professionals worldwide. His highly acclaimed 1990 article "The Science of Scientific Writing" in American Scientist formed the basis of his REA framework.
