Gandhi Ashram School Kalimpong

Gandhi Ashram is a Jesuit Educational Institution in the Eastern Himalayan with music at the centre of all learning. The private unaided, co-educational English medium school was started in 1993 by Fr. Edward McGuire SJ, a Canadian Jesuit priest and is situated in rural Kalimpong. It admits students of the local community as well as from remote areas that come from low-income and vulnerable backgrounds, providing tuition-free academic and arts education and taking care of their nutritional and health needs. There is a special emphasis on the education of the girl child and first generation learners. The school provides a solid foundation in three art forms - fine arts, drama and a thorough training in music - including local cultural music. The Chorus and String Orchestra of the school is renowned for their performances locally, nationally and some of the students have also played internationally.
