Engineer on a Napkin

Engineer on a Napkin explains how energy works, from the heat pump in your house to the power station and the grid. Each episode is drawn by hand and worked out step by step, and comes with a free spreadsheet so you can check the numbers yourself.

I'm Michel, an engineer. I've run a power plant, worked on heat networks and congested grids, and these days I teach. The ideas and explanations are mine; AI is my assistant for drafts, spreadsheets and animations, and I check every number.

The episodes are set in Gridley, a small town that lives on a napkin.
