Oma Liesel's Clean House

The old German way to keep a house clean, fresh and free of mold: a bar of soap, a bottle of vinegar and an open window.

I'm Liesel. I grew up in a Swabian village where every family swept its own stretch of the street on Saturday, and my mother threw open every window twice a day, even in January. What the internet now calls "house burping," she called Lüften. In 1974 I came to Wisconsin with one suitcase and her whole way of keeping house.

Here I show you that way, room by room: the oven, the shower, the washer, the mattress, the windows. Hot water, plain soap, vinegar, washing soda and a little Ordnung. Most of what you need is already under your sink.

New videos every week. Tell me in the comments which room you've given up on, and we'll start there.
