Be UnReserved

On Saturday, September 19th we launched UnReserved! UnReserved is an inaugural Metro DC Synod gathering that invites us into the practice of making room for all people without exception. As the ancient wisdom from the book of Romans affirms, "Welcome one another in the same way that Christ welcomed you."

More than 1,000 Lutherans were interviewed for God’s Love Made Real, a two-year ELCA study conducted by the Barna Group and Fuller. It names a hard truth: the ELCA is declining, aging, and too often fails to embody the welcome it proclaims especially for young people, people of color, and LGBTQ+ communities.

Among its five urgent recommendations is a clear call: stop being accidentally welcoming. Become intentionally and unreservedly curious about new people, creating a culture of invitation and
authentic belonging before people ever enter our churches.
