Africana Muslim and White Supremacy

Welcome to the Africana Muslim and Genealogies of White Supremacy. This Seminar focuses on the Interdisciplinary Study of Blackness and Muslimness. The seminar aims to address the way the racialized figure of the Africana Muslim, ie Muslims from Africa and its diasporas, has been hypervisible in the theory and practice of racism since the days of Columbus yet has been largely invisible in scholarship on critical race studies, white supremacy, and Middle East studies. Over the next year our Seminar will bring together leading scholars, thinkers, and activists to reconceptualize the study of the African and the Muslim and recenter the Africana Muslim beyond the cracks of traditional disciplines and narratives. Our goal is to trace the intersection of race and religion in the production and reproduction of white supremacy, in both theory and praxis. The seminar is supported by the Mellon Foundation and housed at our home institution, the University of Michigan.
