ARTORG – Organs-on-Chip Technologies

The ARTORG Organs-on-Chip Technologies Group develops in vitro platforms for respiratory research, combining microengineering, physics and cell biology. The instrumentation is developed in-house and used to reconstruct the architecture and biophysics of the lung parenchyma, producing microfluidic models for studying pulmonary disease and testing therapies. Our aim is to make these models clinically meaningful. Patient-derived cells are cultured under dynamic physiological conditions, ventilated and continuously monitored much like a patient in intensive care. From these models we work towards functional readouts that correspond to clinical endpoints: in effect, placing a stethoscope on the chip.
