5 to 3

Created by Ph.D. biologists Marie Klein and Grey Monroe.

Molecular biology happens in moving parts too small to see: an enzyme reading DNA one letter at a time, a new strand growing from one end only, a ribosome building a protein from a written message. Most pictures of these processes are still static diagrams that leave the motion to the imagination.

5' to 3' explained makes short animations of how these processes actually work. Proteins are drawn from their real solved structures, at true size against the DNA, and every number and mechanism comes from a primary source listed in the video description. The videos are for anyone curious about how life works at the molecular level, and for students learning genetics and genomics, from a first biology class through the MCAT and graduate school.
