I'm a Las Vegas native and the events of this past weekend shocked me, my community, and the nation to the core. Since the attack, I've seen so many acts of kindness that frankly inspire me.

During the attack itself there were couples and family members using their bodies as shields to protect their loved ones. A man sacrificed his life being a shield for a complete stranger. Off-duty nurses and fellow attendees carrying the injured to safety and applying emergency care using the shirts off their own back to stop the bleeding. First responders and EMTs were quickly at the scene putting themselves in harm's way and saving lives.

Starting almost immediately blood banks filled up with lines stretching blocks. Donation centers started turning away donations because they had too many. Local businesses offering everything free of charge: shelter, food and clothing, flights, counseling, and everything in between. A victims fund started and within 3 days it has almost $10 million. Locals have gotten together to make blankets and kits for the victims and their families. Etsy shops selling crafts and donating all of the proceeds to charity. Electronic billboards across the strip stopped advertising nightclubs and day clubs. Instead, they show messages of solidarity and provide information on what the community can do to help. A person spent the better part of 2 days photoshopping anyone's profile who requested to show their solidarity for the attack. Multiple vigils were held in the city. Local nurseries are building a healing park with 1 tree for every person who lost their life in the shooting and it will be ready by the end of the week.

These are only some of the ways the community has helped. There are many more people wanting to help but don't know what they can do besides pray. Facilitators have posted that the best thing people can do right now is to schedule appointments for bloodwork, call ahead before bringing supplies to donation centers, and to donate to the victim's fund.

As for me decided to help the best way I know how. I wrote and recorded this song on Monday and Tuesday expressing some of my thoughts on the events of the past week. Yesterday after my classes I stayed up getting the song ready for distribution. It's not perfect but it's what I have to share.

In addition to the acts of love and charity, I've seen a lot of hate towards each other. I've seen people who disagree with each other on their responses and how to cope and instead of consoling and working with each other they curse each other. To this, I say we need to step back and realize that we're all hurt and upset by this tragic event. We need to work together and replace the hate and evil of the weekend with love and support of each other.

Lastly, I wrote this song on Monday before any reports were given on the victims and I was surprised to find that the majority of victims were not from Las Vegas at all. So why this, song directly addresses only the people of my city and its message of love and service is meant for everyone affected by this horrible event.
