Robert Greene writes amazing books. I just finished a book called "Doing the Impossible" by Bet-David that reminded me of 48 Laws of Power. Just simpler and a faster read.

i dont find these laws to be evil or decitefull at all. I find that they are more geared to protecting yourself from being taken advantage of. not revealling your entire essence is not deciteful or evil. people are, by nature, wired for self preservation and they will do whatever it takes to accomplish just that. the more poeple know about someone else the more they can gain from that person.
