In 1969, Fred Rogers appeared before the United States Senate Subcommittee on Communications. His goal was to support funding for PBS and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, in response to significant proposed cuts by President Nixon.

    Did you notice that he never had to go back over things once he said them? There's a difference between talking slow, and ensuring you are understood.

    Fred Rogers may not have been the fastest talker, but you never once misunderstood what he was saying, nor what he meant. In this respect It was he that was the great communicator, not Ronald Reagan.

    I always was told by my peers in my small town that I talked funny because I enunciated. They said that I talked funny and weird, when I was actually speaking properly. I am sure that Mr. Rogers dealt with this at a different time, with different people.
