Al-Sahaf is known for his daily press briefings in Baghdad during the 2003 Iraq War. His colorful appearances caused him to be nicknamed Baghdad Bob (in the style of previous propagandists with alliterative aliases such as "Hanoi Hannah" and "Seoul City Sue") by commentators in the United States and Comical Ali (an allusion to Chemical Ali, the nickname of former Iraqi Defence Minister Ali Hassan al-Majid) by commentators in the United Kingdom.

  • I feel very sorry for him. He was put up in front of the media to try and give a clear view point from a nasty dictator and his family. When the inevivitable happenend and Saddam and his clan ran away he stayed. We view him as an object of derision, but he was ordered to say the things he did, otherwise there would have been problems for him and his family. I am glad I am not in his position as anyone with half a mind would be.

  • A true legend. He made you laugh out loud. He is still missed every day.

  • @Aethelhald ..

This guy was the comedy fucking GOLD portion of every nightly news org. in the US during the initial invasion. He was Saddam's Mouth-piece and I remember waiting for his statements every night during the push...total "Wizard of OZ" shit, "Don't look behind the curtain everything is fine!!" It was the funniest shit on TV at the time and this video captures a bunch of his famous "Statements" !!!!

  • "Flying rats" and "desert snakes" my all time fave though has got to be :

@1:37 "A Full and Continuous Drilledge " jesus I mean that sound awfully sexual to me ...

anybody else up for some "DRILLEDGE" Lets make it "Full and Continuous" !! WaHoo !!!

  • @fzappa007 I miss him to :-)

  • @Aethelhald Much of what you say is obvious in hind sight as we have learned over the years. People were forced to watch Saddam during his fake victory parades, he created his own illusions in convincing himself and the people of his greatness. The people were isolated to the point of just believing and going along with it to survive. So I get that. Saddam and his sons abused their power to the point of capitulation in utilizing fascism.

  • @DHarri9977 It wasn't that they didn't want to mess around with US marines, they just didn't want to fight for a completely insane dictator who over several decades had made their nation a pariah of the international community, had brought it to the brink of starvation based on sanctions and whose mentally unstable sons were probably raping the soldiers' wives while they were out fighting invaders.

  • I can NOT believe I'm only just hearing about this man. He is hilarious, absolutely hilarious. "Flew like rats". "Continuous... drillage". What is the situation in Baghdad today? "Fine, fine. You see there is traffic and everything".

    I'm crying with laughter.

  • "They are criminals and stupid" :-) LOL good one mo

  • That guy, man I miss him. He would be perfect for the 0bama press secretary position... but man, going to that guys press conference is like going to a stand up comic show but the citizens are the joke.

  • @DHarri9977 You're absolutely right. Also, considering it was the fastest advance on a capitol city in military history, I would say that should speak for itself.

    Semper Fi!
