This clip is from Martin Scorcese's "The Last Waltz" (1978), considered by many to be one of the best films of live rock music created. The combination of accomplished performances by a raft of musical legends - The Band, Niel Young, Dr John, Paul Butterfield, Muddy Waters, Eric Clapton, Van Morrrison, Bob Dylan, Emmylou Harris - and Martin Scorcese's visionary approach to the footage captured raises this documentary to a higher level.
Here we have Joni Mitchell, the queen of the female confessional troubadours, backed by The Band performing her legendary song from her 1976 album, "Hejira". The song deals with the difficulty of establishing any sort of contact with people from backgrounds different from our own.
