...for new artists trying to break out and get wide mainstream notice is completely and utterly different. To me, the notion that there "was more money to give chances to good artists" is rather odd, considering that back then, aspiring music acts needed fat piles of cash and marketing support from a major label or well-heeled producer to get on the radio; now, bands start their own labels, can merket themselves "virally" for chump change on the 'Net, and radio barely even matters.
