  • apparently brian didn't want sloop john b on pet sounds as he didn't believe it fitted with the rest of the concept of the album. it was suggested and included al jardine's insistence. actually it would've sounded more at home on smile.

  • @briney1973 If you think Al Jardine had the power to insist the final tracklisting of an album in 1966 you're dreaming. The common myth is that Capitol insisted it be included, which to my finding has no evidence of being true.

It's incredible to me how people can't seem to accept such a great song on a great album...and constantly keep fabricating fairy tales to explain its presence.

  • David Crosby had the pleasure and privilege to sit in the studio while Sloop John B was being laid down. I'd choose that opportunity over the choice of being him any day.

  • @pmoyer50 I'm not saying that anecdote isn't true, but I've never heard it before...and there's been a lot of ink spilled about the creation of this album.

  • Ok, the only ones that won't play on the iPhone is Sloop John B and Wouldn't It Be Nice, were those the earliest ones you uploaded Behind The Sounds?

  • @FREISTUDIOS No, I posted all of the videos in order of their track listing. This was the seventh video I posted on this account.

I have videos posted on another account that were also never converted over to MP4. Youtube circa 2008-2009 was sometimes very spotty when it came to this, and as a user, you have no control over correcting it other than re-uploading the video.

  • @BehindTheSounds I believe that Al Jardine suggested recording Sloop John B to Brian. Brian took it and ran with it. I don't think Al could have dreamed in a million years that Brian would turn it into what it became. I never heard it stated that Al Jardine forced it onto Pet Sounds. Capitol Record$ more likely!!!!

  • i dont know bout the rest of you but that blast of four part harmony at 5:11 damn near blasts my socks off.

  • so THAT'S what the tuba sound is-a baritone sax!!

  • Does anyone know what's that percussion instrument at the the very beginning of the song, along with the flute and the glockenspiel?

  • Absolutely fantastic. I love this :)

  • This is SO BEAUTIFUL. Thanks so much for posting it.
