Τhe allegory of Plato is so close to our modern days.
The cave is our Horrible Society. We are watching what they want Tv, Media (shadows). We (prisoners of the system) must get up from the sofa, live, think and learn if we want to see the truth (light of the sun).

I was thinking the same thing. Did you see the look on the character's face when the narrator said that? I'm pretty sure that'd be the look on my face, too.
