    Not so. I like The Wire. But it tends to beat you over the head with it all. There's no respite from the misery or room to breathe or people you can laugh with or identify with. Dexter is more light-hearted but that does not mean it's light-weight and does not take away from it's deeper levels & textures. Expand your horizons. Just because it's "all serious" doesn't mean it's better or more worthy. It's a kind of reverse-snobbery to assume popular & charming = shallow & meaningless. JMO
