Shot with a Braun Nizo Super 8 camera mounted on a bicycle. The camera had an intervalometer so it automatically shot a frame of film every so many seconds. I redid the ride in 2011 and photographed stills at key points in the film to show then and now. The Vancouver radio is from the early 70's. Where did you get your transfer done?

I did the transfer myself. I built a contraption from an old projector, a used DSLR, some Meccano, an old variable speed motor, and a used 10mm macro lens and photographed each of the more than 3,500 frames. These were used to create the video you see here.

Really great job! I love the updated views and the soundrack.

I worked on a project out of the Boundary Bay Airport in the mid 70s for the BC Safety Council. We watched miles of footage of highway objects like phone poles and bridge abutments. This is exactly the kind of footage we were looking at. My guess is that the original footage came from that camera either as a test before our project or as a lark afterword.

Thanks very much. I'm not sure what you meant about the original footage. I certainly did this film for myself. It is actually one roll of Super 8, I got home just as the film ran out. The Vancouver archives have it now.

    Fantastic!

I was a TV producer at CBC Vancouver and I once did a show on Pacific Report in 1980 about Vancouver traffic. We shot through a van front window at 1 frame per 30 secs, all over the place. It worked out very well. I sure wish I had the film today.

Your great film brought it back to me. Thanks.

Thanks Tony, you also have a nice collection of Vancouver Nostalgia on your channel. Watched the Expo piece, brings back good memories of that summer.

I am SO HAPPY TO SEE THIS! When I was in my teens I used to ride my bike around the docks and from stanley all the way up to Wall st for fun. I watched the short version first, and paused it a couple of times to identify spots I remember, and I was so excited to see you rode along the False Creek seawall where I actually LEARNED TO RIDE MY BIKE IN 1975!!! I remember the piles of dirt and paving stones. Now I'll watch the long version and I know it will blow my mind! Thank you! Amazing!

I wasn't even born for another 12 years while you were making movies about Vancouver. Thank you for the opportunity to see the city that I love as it once was. It was really fascinating to see.

Your footage has been used in this video watch?v=WPNFB1kw5sc

Did you give the guy permission to use it? It also looks like he is trying to sell it on face book.
