The car was the first of its kind utlizing the molecular bonded shell that made the car virtually industructible. @chazzeroo1967 Richard Basehart did play Wilton Knight in the pilot episode Knight Of The Phoenix. Prior to that role, he starred in a 1960's Irwin Allen-created show called Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea.

Thanks for the insight, westholmes2001. Till now, I always wondered who provided the show's opening narration. I'm glad you pointed that out. This would mean he's the same guy who provided the line "Michael Knight, a lone crusader in a dangerous world. The world... of the Knight Rider" at the end of some episodes before the "Executive Producer, Glen A. Larson" credit. I'm assuming he played the Wilton Knight character in the pilot episode.
