Fallout 3 - Scrap Metal Glitch Tutorial

By doing this glitch and going to Walter in Megaton with your infinite scrap metal you can go from level 1-30 in about an hour. The tutorial goes over all the steps that you need to do in order to successfully complete the glitch.

Depending on your sneak level you can use different amount of scrap metal. For example, when your only level 2, you may want to consider just using 16 pieces, as its a lot easier to take back and you wont get caught very often. But if your level 30 with 100 sneak, a stealth boy and Chinese stealth armour, you can go as high as 20 or 30 pieces.

If you start off at level 2 and go to level 30 using the glitch, your caps range around 100,000 - 130,000. Since you get 140 caps every time you give him your 14 "invisible" pieces of scrap metal it really helps if your running low, just go out and buy everything in the capital wasteland.

Scrap metal may be tempting when wondering around the wasteland, but remember this. Every time you pick up even a single piece of scrap metal the glitch resets and you will have to find more metal and re-do the glitch.

Unfortunately you cannot use the glitch at the ammo press in the Pitt, because the metal is invisible and is only available for trade via talking you cant put any in the bin. There is an option though, if your done with getting caps and XP you can go and get lots of stimpacks and items from Casdin so that the scrap metal builds up in his inventory. When he hits about 500 kill him and loot his body for the metal, have a partner that can carry lots of things like Fawkes or RL3 and you carry some and they carry some to the Pitt. Unfortunately this makes it so you can never to the glitch again. So choose wisely.

Here are just some basic instructions on the glitch if the video went to fast for you:
1. Find Tinker Joe outside the Robco Facility and buy all his scrap metal usually around 6-14 pieces.
2. Go into the Facility and obtain the stealth boy in the office directly across from the front door.
3. Collect as much scrap metal as you can, including ones in/on conveyors, repair offices, and robot crap.
4. Head NNE towards Fort Independence, survive the raider wave and sign up for a collecting job.
5. Talk to Protector Casdin in the fenced off area of Fort Independence, Trade him all 16 pieces of your scrap metal for anything that he has it doesn't matter, I just chose stimpacks.
6. Equip your stealth boy and go behind him, pickpocket all 16 pieces back.
7. Give him 14 pieces so that you have 2 pieces left. Remember to save after each step.
8. Pickpocket the 14 pieces back so you have 16 again. Than pickpocket his laser rifle, you must get caught for it to work so don't get mad if he takes it back. When you get caught it should say 14 scrap metal removed, and than 16 scrap metal removed. If it does congrats, you now have infinite scrap metal!

Later in another video I will be showing you the Unarmed glitch, at the end I show a few kills. Each individual punch of mine does about 20,000 damage. Enough to take out a super mutant behemoth in 1 shot on very hard difficulty. And enough to take out a Lvl. 30 Fawkes in about 5 or 6 charged punches. (Fawkes has about 270,000 hp on level 30)

Guys it still works. I saw all these "error" comments about it not working. JUST FOR YOU GUYS. I redid the glitch on both GOTY edition and the regular edition (Yes I have both, one for pc, one for xbox) They both worked fine. Fallout 3 doesnt release patches anymore either. Just follow the steps in the video and it should work fine. If you use more then 16 it probably wont work. I recommend having atleast 50 sneak when doing it. It really helps. Even if you have a stealthboy its still hard...

Does this work with the game of the year editon because i have done it all exacly how you did 5 times and when i take the laser rifle i get caught but it doesnt come up that 16 scrap metals removed and then 14 scrap metals removed ? help plz? ASAP

Hmmm what platform are you playing on? Ps3, Xbox or PC? Did you make sure it wasnt working by talking to casdin? I know for a fact it works on Game of the year edition

For some easy scrap metal go and start the Operation Anchorage quest and get into the Outcast Facility. There are 16-20 pieces of scrap metal and are free to take.
