Petra is my favorite all time Christian rock band and they were the best band of their time. However they were not the founder of Christian rock. Larry Norman was around long before they started.

Larry Norman is the earliest Christian rocker that I can think of but Petra was my favorite.

I don't see Petra as destructive. If you do, you haven't listened to the music or read the lyrics. I could name all the songs but if you don't get it, you won't get it.

I like john also but in 1986, I was very sad to hear the "NEW" voice of Petra. My favorite album was More power to ya.

@bagelboi66 they were awesome as well... but Petra was the one standing out... I mean, ask kids nowadays if they heard of any of those... I'm telling you that most of them would have heard of only Petra and maybe, just maybe of Rez band... I mean christian young people, of course...

@cristyraul Not just Petra, but REZ band, Chuck Girard & Love Song, Malcolm & Alwyn, Randy Stonehill, Ken Medema, 2nd Chapter of Acts, Barry McGuire, gosh there were so many. It's depressing how few pioneers are still performing, or indeed still on Earth. I guess I'll always have an especially soft spot for Larry Norman though. I never get sick of his groundbreaking "Six O'Clock News" hey I still listen to it!

I am so blessed to have grown up with their music fas the soundtrack to my childhood! I don't remember a week going by without blaring 'Back To The Street' or 'This Means War' while doing my chores and homework. They are truely blessed gift from God. Thank you so much for sharing this!
