United Technologies Research Center (UTRC) video of the 20-minute first flight of a fuel cell-powered rotorcraft. The demonstration on October 11, 2009 used a remote-control electric helicopter model modified with a hydrogen/air proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel-cell powerplant. The fuel cell produced 1.75kW maximum power with a power density of more than 500W/kg.

HELICAT is an aeronautics company which is mainly engaged in RESEARCH, DEVELOPMENT, MANUFACTURING and COMMERCIALISATION of AIRCRAFT. Its most important product is the HELIGIRO.
The HELIGIRO is a hybrid between a helicopter and an aeroplane. It was conceived and designed to break the speed barrier of all Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) aircraft). Veritical take-off and landing aircraft are limited in speed due to the tremendous resistance of the rotor when moving through the atmosphere at high speed. In fact, the maximum theoretical speed of a VTOL is 402km/h.* This speed limit was recognised very early in the development of VTOLs and has led to a number of attempts to overcome it.
The HELIGIRO can reach speeds up to 600 Km/h with a combustion engineer and speeds even higher with a gas turbine engine, and has become the fastest Convertiplane or VTOL craft (vertical take off and landing) in the world. Its speed is due to its unique and original aerodynamic design and the use of modern technologies in its design and construction. Since the very beginning, the HELIGIRO was developed using a modern "fly-by-wire" control system, which consists of the interfacing a digital computer between the control panel, handled by the pilot, and all the craft's control components (rotor, propellers, wings, engine control, etc.), which makes it the easiest VTOL to fly.

AgustaWestland video of the Novemvber 12, 2009 maiden flight of the AW159 mult-role military helicopter, and upgrade of the Westland Lynx. Two more test aircraft will fly in 2010 and deliveries will begin in 2011. The UK MoD has ordered 62 AW159s as the Lynx Wildcat, to enter service with the British Army in 2014 and Royal Navy in 2015. Visible changes include the new strengthened tail and uptruned exhausts for the more powerful CTS800 engines.

AgustaWestland video of the November 13, 2009 maiden flight of the first prototype AW149 medium tactical helicopter at its Vergiate plant in Italy. The first prototype has a representative airframe and avionics. A second prototype to fly in 2010 will have the 2,000shp-class CT7-2E1 engines planned for the production helicopter. The AW149, a derivative of the commercial AW139, is planned to eneter service in 2014.

Video produced by the US Air Force Research Laboratory and Army Aeroflightdynamics Directorate showing September 2009 flight tests of the 3D-LZ anti-brownout system on an EH-60L helicopter at Yuma Proving Ground in Arizona. 3D-LZ combines a nose-mounted laser radar and special symbology on the cockpit displays. The ladar produces an image on the ground (green) and obstacles (yellow/red) while the symbols guide the pilot to the landing point through the dust cloud.
