Organized by Brightest Young Things and curated by comedian Tig Notaro, the opening night gala featured performances by Patton Oswalt, Mary Lynn Rasjkub, Todd Barry, Kyle Kinane, Ian Edwards and Rory Scovel.

How would TV's "Mad Men" promote TV's "Monty Python's Flying Circus"?
I asked Rich Sommer, who plays Harry Crane, head of the TV department at fictional ad agency Sterling Cooper. They're still in 1963, so they have six years before Monty Python debuts and a decade before Python hits American TV sets. Based on Sommer's answer, it appears they need all the time they can get!
Sommer was on hand at the premiere screening of the new Monty Python documentary, which airs Oct. 18-23 on IFC. Sommer's Mad Men airs Sunday nights on AMC.

Monty Python reunited to celebrate their 40th anniversary and the release of a new six-hour documentary about them called "Monty Python Almost the Truth: The Lawyer's Cut."
The Comic's Comic talked briefly on the chilly, wet red carpet with Python's Terry Jones about the secrets to writing good sketch comedy. And Jones used the "Mr. Creosote" scene from Monty Python's Meaning of Life as an example.

Evan Shapiro is president of IFC TV and the Sundance Channel.
At the red carpet for the reunion of Monty Python -- IFC is airing a new six-hour documentary on Monty Python in October 2009, as well as rebroadcasts of all of the original Monty Python's Flying Circus TV episodes and films -- Shapiro spoke with The Comic's Comic about how to take risks with new and different sitcoms. After all, Monty Python was a huge risk that paid off.
Shapiro is executive producer of Chris Kattan's Bollywood Hero on IFC. His channel also airs The Whitest Kids U Know, Z Rock, and soon will air repeats of Arrested Development.
