@mutantmoments coremidi is definitely the way to go now! our little midi machine app still supports the older line 6 midi api, but new apps won't be able to. there's also an app called "midibridge" that can help bridge between the original mobilizer and apps that only speak coremidi for people th...

@freesoulvw thanks! I'm using a Kenton Pro Solo MIDI->CV converter to convert the MIDI clock from FunkBox to the gate/sync that the Monotribe wants to see. You can see the Kenton in the upper left, the blue box. A groovebox or drum machine that has MIDI wouldn't need the Kenton, you could just go...

@gideonaa thanks! the current hack day version of the app requires that the echo nest have already analyzed the song for someone else. their api/library has easy hooks to submit the song if they don't have it, or if the data they sent back didn't seem to match yours, etc. that would be one of the...

@Psylvia69 Thanks! Currently I don't have any plans to release it. Due to the way the app store works, it's hard to release fun little hacks like this. I would need to put a lot more work into making it look nicer, work better, be more reliable, etc to get it through the reviewers. You know the 8...

@laterveer1 It only works with songs on your iPhone/iPod, no live audio input. It gets the beat info from Echo Nest's database, which is recorded songs. There are some hardware devices you can buy for real time audio->MIDI sync, I used to have one from Redsound. Only really worked with dance stuf...

@likewhatisay FunkBox has the multi-tasking support. I've been working on an update for LMM that includes it for a long while and gotten derailed three or four times for various reasons. I'm back on it and hopefully will have something to submit soon, sorry for the long delay.

syntheticbits commented 6 months ago
@ikku4649 Thanks. FunkBox is the master MIDI clock on the iPad, it sends MIDI clock out via WiFi to the iPod Touch running SyncKontrol, which is connected to the MonoTribe. I've found this to be a little flaky, sometimes it works well, sometimes it doesn't, probably depending on the WiFi network....

@warp2600 Thanks! This is a beta version of the next update for LMM, which includes multi-tasking support so you can sync the two apps and switch back and forth between them. You sync them up just like you'd sync FunkBox with BassLine or MoDrum or Molten. It will also in theory allow LMM to seque...

Just a note to mention the Little MIDI Machine app now supports iPhone/Touch, and also now supports CoreMIDI (USB or WiFi). It can also send or receive MIDI clock, so you can sync it to other instruments or a computer. The UI has also been updated and is a little prettier. And it's still free, a...

Hi John,
The app is currently iPad only, sorry I wasn't more clear about that. I got to the point in developing it where it was becoming a time sink, so my choices were to either shelve it until I could add all the features I knew people would want (including iPhone/Touch compatibility), or just...

Thanks again for the feedback.
The app was approved by Line 6 yesterday and was then submitted to Apple for their review. Hopefully it will be out soon.
It is still a two channel sequencer, it does let you load and save the patterns, and has a couple more tricks not shown in the video. But esse...

Hey, thanks for the positive feedback.
Yes, the MIDI Mobilizer is a MIDI interface for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. MIDI is not built into the iOS system like it is with MacOS, so Line 6 has their own custom code to communicate with the hardware interface. So unlike the Mac, an app has to suppor...

@harrymerchant456 Yes you can get intermittent glitches with WiFi depending on the network and how many devices are on it. In this case you have 4 MIDI devices (iPad, 2 Touches, laptop) chattering away. WiFi is better for song sketching and jamming than recording, you don't mind the glitches as m...

@69brain You can save the beats as MIDI or audio (.wav) and email them to yourself or grab the audio through iTunes. You can also use Intua style audio copy/paste to move a beat to a different app. I really need to update this video, this is version 1.0 and the app has come a long way :)
