About this user

I have a degree in zoology (animal behavior) and another in teaching and I love to share my knowledge with others. My aim is to show you how easy the clicker is to train your animals to learn complicated and challenging tasks and behaviors, as well as solve behavior problems. I have extensive experience with dogs.
I now offer classes via the web. Grab a web cam (only $40-60) and start classes!

These show how to use the clicker to train your dog to do service dog tasks.

A fearful foster dog introduced me to the clicker. I later started intensively clicker training my Golden Retriever at 11 yo. She loved it! Ollie, my heart dog was afraid of the click and no-one in my circles could tell me how to work around that. Turns out, he likely has been on an e-collar that linked the sound with punishment. Lucy taught me how to deal with that.

About Jessie:
Jessie was a rescue from the city pound at 7 mos old. She had been handled too harshly for her sensitive nature by her previous owner who she kept running away from. She still carries some post traumatic stress from that time. She hid her fears well and most people had no idea how stressed she was. (She couldn't pee for 3 days when we first brought her home-her bladder sphincter was held tightly closed.)
She quickly discovered that clicker training was fun and a good way to forget your worries and focus on the task at hand-and there was no punishment!

It took her a long time to bond- 8 mos before we started seeing a glimmer of a connection. After a year, I was thrilled see her body posture relax in the forest.

It took her about 2 years to before she started understanding that words have meaning (supper, walk, her buddy's names, things most other dog's learn so quickly etc). I think she was so busy watching everything for signs of punishment, she just couldn't listen. Jessie has taught me alot about dogs with fear issues. Most recently, she has learned a behavior on cue by simple observation of another dog and can perfrom a few behaviors with me on the other side of a solid door! Very advanced learning indeed!

About Lucy:
Lucy joined our family in Aug. 2010 at 21 mos from a busy family that realized they didn't have time for her needs. She had been on an e-collar and muzzled when they were away as she chewed, dug and chased bunnies out of the yard: all signs of boredom. We've had no problem with any of these behaviors since she's been with us.

She has a very similar temperament and physique to Ollie, my previous heart dog, yet has a personality all her own. She loves charging through the forest, meeting other dogs and playing with kids. Sniffing out bunnies are a favorite past-time of hers. She is alot of fun and is a great match for Jessie. We've seen even more of an increase in Jessie's confidence level since Lucy's been with us. They are a great tag team in the forest and good buddies at home. Lucy does have a few issues of her own so stay tuned for videos showing how we retrain them.

We sample many different dog sports and activities and have found that cross-training really reaps benefits!
