Asheville, NC -- In the early 2000's, in the small, artist-laden town of Asheville, NC, the yet-unmarried Stephanie Morgan and Chuck Lichtenberger stitched together their musical destinies. They met in a jazz standards band, which they loved. But Steph was also a popster, and Chuck was also into Van Halen and metal. Ergo, there was new music to be written. Work to do. Dreams to manifest...Stephaniesid was born.

Steph, along with her penchant for the study of human psychology, conceptualized her original songs as having sprung from her id (Freud and Jung's "seat of all impulses and desires"). Chuck had a bunch of tapes of instrumentals he'd written, and had the musical training to make songs more interesting than the cowboy-chord attempts Steph was mustering. They wanted the music to be big and beautiful. They began to make music that acknowledged darkness and melancholy but reached toward the light. They found their genre: "noir-pop."

Their guitarless debut album, "Spiral In" (2005), was a lushly arranged work that was later choreographed to become "Anna: A Rock Ballet," chronicling the life of a woman who conquers a life of fear to become president. Steph and Chuck were married in Iceland in 2006, and then returned to release "Grus Americanus" (2007), spawning singles which appeared on HBO's "Nurse Jackie", award-winning short film "The Red Helmet", and numerous compilations.

2009's "Warm People" garnered more national attention for the band, with plays on NPR's "World Cafe" ("Sharp writing!" exclaims David Dye). Robin Hilton of "All Songs Considered" described the album as "...a mesmerizing mix of songs that can be hushed and calm one moment, and then suddenly dark and explosive the next." By 2010, Stephaniesid had been named "Best Rock Band" in Asheville in the (weekly rag) Mountain Xpress poll 4 years in a row. Stephaniesid was hitting full stride. The Bonnaroo Beacon, reviewing the band's 2008 show at the behemoth festival recalls, "...a rather transcendent set ...the band was different, melodic, quirky, and just plain good.... A sleeper act which hit the mark with an almost Bjork-like panache."

During the winter of 2010, Steph gained some confidence in her home recording skills by reading recording magazines and being part of a songwriting group in which she had to record a song per week. Some of these songs became seeds for the band's forthcoming album, "Starfruit" (to be released Fall 2011), which Steph engineered and produced. Steph writes, "It was born over months & months of begging, deep in the bowels of the home, underground in its basement, excavating echoes & running them backward through reverb machines. Dehydrated, hazy-eyed. Craving fruit. Into the dim passed the offering of nine brilliant musicians, gamely entrusting a house-recording experiment with their gorgeously crafted intonations. Track by track, a mouthwatering other-world reached into materialization, hovering a few feet above some cheap microphones, a laptop, & the pit of the stormy sea." The 14-track album is thick with vocal harmony, catchy melodies, backward guitars, and orchestral sections. It culminates in a wandering, hopeful conclusion.

Touring in support of "Starfruit" are Steph (vox, guitar, synth), Chuck (keyboards, vox), Maine-born Tim Haney (drums), and former NYC horn players Justin Ray and Jacob Rodriguez, with Matthew Richmond (vibraphone) and Jonathan Pearlman (guitar) also appearing on shows in the Southeast.
