Let this be the Age of Reason

I am a UK-born English teacher who has lived in France & Japan. My grandparents are all from the West Indies. I am aware that over-patriotism & national pride often lead to xenophobia & unhappiness, so I show a very measured & balanced pride in both my English & my British heritage.

I enjoy studying the languages & cultures of other countries & I speak fluent French, decent Japanese & basic Italian & German. I have a special interest in Linguistics which was what I graduated in at University.

I have a layman's interest in evolutionary biology, biochemistry, genetics & chemistry. I enjoy reading, sci-fi & the internet.

I am an atheist, humanist, skeptic, secularist & freethinker. I am interested in finding a secular basis for a science of morality.

Although I am a descriptive gramaticist, I am a strong believer in using correct grammar, spelling and punctuation on the Internet; badly written comments are very difficult to read & give a very puerile impression of oneself.
