Background:
Simon Ribeiro was born in Tallahassee, Florida on Mother's Day Sunday, May 10, 1981.
His family moved to Rochester in upstate New York, and in the summer of 1986 they moved to Evanston, Illinois (just north of Chicago).
Simon has lived in the 9th Disrtict for over 24 years.
He also studied, graduated, and now teaches in many of the community's schools.

His Father...
Professor Gerardo Ribeiro, a world-renowned concert violinist, had taught at numerous universities after his studies at the prestigious Juilliard School in New York City. He won numerous international competitions, and soloed with major world orchestras. Ribeiro's recordings are available on the RCA and EMI labels. He taught at Central Michigan University, Florida State University, the University of Rochester's Eastman School of Music, and is now teaching at Northwestern University. Ribeiro also serves on the faculties of the Chicago Music Institute and the Meadowmount Music School in New York.
In 2001 Ribeiro was awarded the Presidential Scholars Teacher Recognition Award from the White House's Commission on Presidential Scholars by the President and Secretary of Education. In 2000 Mr. Ribeiro was decorated by the President of his native Portugal the highest civilian honor- Commander of the Order of Prince Henry the Navigator.
His Mother...
Professor Joanne D'Amato, a linguist and musician, had taught at the State University of New York in Italian Literature and Film. She also served as a High School Teacher in English, Italian, and Spanish. She was a talented Concert Pianist when she met her violinist husband.
Her eldest brother, Alfonse M. D'Amato, became the first Italian-American to be elected statewide in New York. He served in the United States Senate from 1981-1999. Her other brother, Armand P. D'Amato, served in the New York State Legislature. Both her brothers are practicing attorneys.
Simon's Education:
Simon's education mounted mostly on outside reading, documentaries, and travels.
He traveled to 13 nations all over Europe and the Americas.
He graduated from Evanston Township High School in June 2000.
He attended Drake University as a Presidential Scholarship attendee from 2000-2001.
He graduated Oakton Community College in May 2005, earning a degree in Liberal Arts.
He graduated Northeastern Illinois University in May 2005, earning a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and History.
He is finishing a Master's degree in Secondary Education Teaching from National-Louis University.
Public Service Experience:
In 2000 to 2001, Simon trained at the U.S. Army's Reserved Officer Training Corps (ROTC) at Drake University. He competed with distinction in the Army's annual Ranger Challenge competition.
In 2004 Simon interned for Chicago Alderman Margaret Laurino, Committeeman Randy Barnette, and Illinois State Representative John C. D'Amico.
In 2005 Simon passed the rigorous U.S. State Department's Foreign Service Written Exam, and became a U.S. Diplomat Corps Candidate.
In 2006 Simon became the youngest Congressional Candidate in U.S. History winning nearly 2,400 votes on his Primary Run and earning 3rd place in the Final Election.
In 2007 Simon served as a Deputy Voting Registrar, registering many new voters.
In 2008 and 2009 Simon served as an Election Judge and Equipment Manager for the Presidential Primary and General Elections and the Mayoral Election. Simon recruits many new election judges.
In 2009, Simon had filed candidacy to run for Alderman, but withdrew so he could run for Congress in the Special Election in the neighboring 5th Congressional District.
In 2010, Simon won the contested Green Party Primary Election for the 9th Congressional District over the 2008 Green Party Congressional Nominee. In the final election, Simon came in 3rd place winning over 4,400 votes.
Simon continues to serve as a public school teacher and a mentor to many young Americans.
Professional Experience:
Simon Ribeiro serves as a substitute school teacher at Chicago Public Schools, Evanston/Skokie School District 65, and Evanston Township High School District 202.
In 2008-2009 he taught Kindergarten at an Evanston Elementary School.
Simon also serves as a lifeguard and swim instructor and is certified in both fields by the American Red Cross.
Simon is a private tutor. He was hired by Kaplan after receiving a 98th percentile on the ACT exam.
