THE SONG THAT STARTED IT ALL
Back in high school I was originally anti-rock. All I listened to was Snoop Dog, gangsta music, and electric funk... for break-dancing purposes!
It wasn't till I moved to San Antonio Texas that my best friend Sal Perales finally got me into rock. We were doing math homework and he put his Metallica "Ride The Lightning" cassette tape on his silver boombox. I was reluctant to listen but it was his house after all so I let it go. Then, "Fade To Black" started to play... I wasn't sure what was happening. I found myself getting sucked deeper and deeper into the abyss of sound. Once the breakdown started, and I heard my first palm muted distorted strings, I was changed forever. I told him to "play that crap again". And he did... From that day on I couldn't get enough of the guitar. I learned the Fade To Black intro and began my musical journey. It was kind of like musical puberty.
Recently, I found myself watching the new Metallica movie with Sal and it all came flooding back. That is why I made this cover. It's my thank you to Metallica for crossing me over and inspiring me to make bad ass music :) Also, huge thanks to Sal for forcing me to listen to it!
