About Me:

My love of painting came early in life. One of my fondest memories was coming home with my older brother and identical twin sister from grammar school, seeing Grandma Marty's car and knowing that we were going to go paint old red barns. She would have her oil paints and our pastels ready to go and we would all get into her car and drive around the countryside. Grandma Marty didnt want us to get into her oils so she gave us her pastels instead. This is where my love of pastels started. I inherited my grandmother and mothers art capabilities and this began my journey as a self-taught artist. I sold my first painting in high school and began doing commission pieces from there.

Twelve years ago I stopped accepting commission work to have the freedom to paint a variety of things that bring me joy. Everything I see in day to day life is a possible painting whether it is an animal or a vegetable. I get excited thinking about my next project, how I will create it and how I will use contrasts and colors to make it look real.

Along this journey, one of my proudest moments has been achieving Signature Status with the Pastel Society of America entitling me to sign PSA on all of my originals, prints and correspondence. International Artist Magazine has included me in the Master Painter Showcase of their magazine and that was an honor for me as well. I have been fortunate to pursue and receive honors as Artist of the Year by Quail Unlimited, The Dove Sportsmans Society and The Safari Club as well as win the contest to artistically represent world renowned architect Santiago Calatravas Sundial Bridge in Redding, California. I have been featured in the Pastel Journal, selected for numerous national magazine covers, named as a featured artist of Ducks Unlimited and have received juried art awards as well.

Hi andybee! I work at my drafting table at a slant and then off to my easy chair with a lap-top easel. I just slide it over the outside of my legs and the table will slant to whatever angle I want. I can't sit at my drafting table too long, bad back. I found the lap-top easel years ago on-line. I don't know if they still make them or not. It's actually made to use in a bed. I don't use sanded paper I use Strathmore Illustration or Bristol Board 500 series cold press Vellum 10 ply. I get it a Dick Blick on-line. I buy it by the large sheet and cut it down to match each project. Thanks for the great comment! :)) Roby

Hi, Roby. You're work is amazing! Do you work on a flat surface or at an easel? Are using using a snaded paper or something similar to a Canson paper? Thanks.
