The George Shearing Quintet: Out of the Woods (with 4 winds) Play

1964. With woodwind quartet. Composed by Gary Burton.
Piano, Harpsichord - George Shearing;
Bass - Gene Cherico, Ralph Peña;
Drums - Shelly Manne;
Guitar - John Gray;
Vibraphone, Piano, Lyre - Gary Burton;
Woodwinds - Abe Most, Jules Jacobs, Justin Gordon, Paul Horn.

A modest third stream masterwork released when no one wanted to hear this kind of music. Everyone knew George Shearing could play this jazz, no one harshly criticized him for not playing it more often. His bands were always first rate, impeccably rehearsed, his taste in material solid, & his Latin music kept the food hot in the supper clubs that brought him back again & again. Many of America's finest jazz musicians sat at those supper club tables to hear him. A special LP in Gary Burton's extensive discography.

Paul Mark - East to West (1961) Play

American-Japanese exotica: Japanese songs arranged for & performed by a small ensemble with respect, humor & often delicacy.
