The main purpose of this channel is to explain in simple terms the conclusions of scientific research, and correct some of the unsourced crap we get fed on the Internet.

Most of the videos debunk creationist and religious claims. Every year the coveted "Golden Crocoduck" is awarded to the most outrageous piece of bullshit spouted in pursuit of the creationist cause, and most of the debunking videos feature Golden Crocoduck nominees. Voting is in October and is open to everyone, so join the thousands who now regularly vote for their favorite mendacious preacher. There are two main playlists. The "Made Easy" series explains how we got here, from the Big Bang to the human migration out of Africa. The Climate Change series explains how greenhouse gases work, looks at alternative theories to climate change, and debunks the huge number of urban myths that are zipping round the Internet.

UPDATE: Anthony Watts has published my rebuttal to Christopher Monckton in full on wattsupwiththat [http://wattsupwiththat.com/2012/01/11/monckton-responds-to-potholer54/#comment-886975]. And Mr. Monckton has already responded in the comments section. I am told he is preparing a fuller response, which I look forward to rebutting in turn, with Mr. Watts's indulgence.
About Me:

I've been a journalist for 20 years, 14 years as a science correspondent. My degree is in geology, but while working for a science magazine and several science programs I had to tackle a number of different fields, from quantum physics to microbiology. You'll find a complete resume in the video "Who I Am."

POSTING: Anyone is free to post on the fora, and ALL views are welcome. You won't find that on most fundamentalist channels, but I have nothing to fear from open discussion or criticism. However, my tolerance has been abused by people whose sole object is to disrupt the channel, so reluctantly I have now had to ban three people from participating. Just so you can't say you weren't warned, here are my criteria for banning:
1) Advertisements. My channel is not a free billboard.
2) Plagiarism. If you copy and paste someone else's work, don't pretend that the writing is yours. Put it in quotation marks and give the author credit. Hard to believe, but the fundamentalists who have done this cannot understand when I explain that what they are doing is deceitful and intellectually shallow. If you understand so little, don't just cheat and copy from someone else. Learn some facts, then use your own arguments. 3) Spam. I know it's fun to disrupt the fora by copying and pasting huge chunks of text again and again. Going back over a point you made earlier is fine, but mindlessly spamming the same post repeatedly will no longer be tolerated.

Oh one more thing, Greenthumb; aren't the guys who did this study... scientists? Doesn't that make them the people who are biased and can't be trusted and are conspiring to take over the world, and who keep claiming to know better than everyone else?

And yet when (you think) they are saying something that supports your premeditated conclusions, you suddenly decide they're reliable? So much so that you don't pause to check whether they really are agreeing with you?

Your confirmation bias is so painfully glaring it's no longer funny.

This is because warming causes more ice to melt, and more water to evaporate at low altitudes. Where is the vapour going to go? Up of course. More clouds form than in a lower-CO2 atmosphere, and when this extra water condenses and rains on or near the peaks of the Himalayas, it's more likely to freeze, because it's still very high up.

Warming also tends to affect low altitudes far more than high altitudes. This stands to reason, as the increased CO2 is blocking heat as it radiates from the ground, and pushing it back downwards, so very little of the extra heat is likely to rise all that far. So it will still be very, very cold up there.

Okay?
havstormer (13 hours ago)
Okay, I've found the article for myself and read it and - oh how out of character for an amateur climate-skeptic! - you misquoted it. It said the melting is MUCH LESS THAN THEY EXPECTED. Not that there was no loss at all.

It also discusses the net amount of ice worldwide, excluding the polar caps. You need to keep in mind that the amount lost in some places might be offset by gains in others. Given that the Himalayas have a tendency to be quite high up (they're mountains, you know), there's a fair chance of them staying icy, and even of gaining ice during a warming phase.

"Uh read the article again geniose its about the himalayas not the arctic circle,, so I was right." - - - I did actually point out to you that the link you gave me ISN'T WORKING, so I was doing the best I could with what little I could infer from the URL itself. If I inferred incorrectly, well why don't you try re-posting the right link?

"Sorry but havstomer is a compete retard." - - - Oh, I'm the retard, am I? You can't put up a URL correctly. Your spelling and punctuation are comical. (The correct spelling is 'genius', for the record.) And your sources are all non-scientific. So let's have a show of hands, who's the retard?

@greenthumb84 -- "Just in case you missed it is says NO LOSE OF ICE IN 10 YEARS you moron"
I am preparing a video on this, so I'll explain why this 'No loss of ice in 10 years'is not what the paper in question is saying.

Hey, greendumb84 - have a look of what I said about Mockton on my channel.
Potholer54 won't let me say it here on his channel, but I have every right to say whatever I want about Mockton on MY channel. It's my own ideas, not copyright infringement, and I totally agree that violating privacy is NOT freedom of speech (and that's where I disagree with Julian Assange's conflating of the two). I am not entitled to whatever info that person possesses that they do not want released, but I have absolutely every single right to make up whatever I want from my own ideas about them (and you're next) on my own webpage or YT channel.

Let's throw a challenge back at you, Greenthumb. If you're so smart, debunk this; -

Grrenthumb, the idea that there is no loss of ice over the last ten years is deranged. The area of the Arctic Circle covered, for instance, has reduced from around 14.5 million sq.km in 2002 to about 13.5 million sq.km at the start of this winter. (See nsidc[dot]org/arcticseaicenews/ - I know you won't bother to look, but I don't want to be accused of not sourcing.) This is all to say nothing of the loss of ice-density during that time, which is what matters most of all.

If you can find it, try watching David Attenborough's recent documentary series for the BBC, called Frozen Planet. He visits both polar regions, and finds enormous decline in ice levels.

Greenthumb, I keep getting "Page Not Found" for that link. But from what I can see from the URL, the article appears to be four years old, meaning it's not exactly cutting edge. It's also apparently in the Guardian, which is not a scientific journal, so yet again I have to ask you why you're so confident that it's reliable? (By the way, you're quite transparently a right-winger. Do you not realise that the Guardian is a liberal newspaper?)
