I haven't been able to post in quite a long time for various reasons but I wanted to put out something to acknowledge the Oct. 3 passing of Robert Kirby and this short instrumental from Bryter Later seemed appropriate. For those not familiar with the name,he was the man who did almost all of the orchestral arrangements on Nick's records and also for many other artists. One of the main reasons I did these ND covers in the first place was to try to pick out the notes and recreate some of the gorgeous arrangements that Mr. Kirby did(and hopefully make them sound somewhat musical with the materials I had at hand here in my home studio). In the end I could never do them complete justice but just the process of listening so closely to them was a great learning experience and made me appreciate all the more what a brilliant musician he was.And I think that the arrangement on this song is a perfect example of the incredible synergy between Nick's hypnotic playing and Robert's lyrical string lines. So,thanks Mr. Kirby for all your fantastic work,RIP.
Hea Man, we talked messaged a while back... and i'm still loving your Nick Drake stuff. Just wondering have you ever seriously considered doing a few gigs in Europe? I think you one of the few great guitar players and singers that can do Nick's legacy proud. Major respect, Tony
