Peter Mintun's Melody Museum
About Me:

St. Valentines Day, 2010 marked the premier of petermintunmusic channel on YouTube. Every day, pianist Peter Mintun performs a special song chosen from his vast repertoire of the 1920s and '30s. "You might say that I'm an archivist who shakes the dust off several hundred overlooked songs of the Prohibition years. In my head I have more than 2,600 songs. I have played them on the piano for years, but now that there are so few people around who actually remember these, I find it is important to convey the words to my audience. Bobby Short once accused me of singing "like a song writer," which, of course, is a compliment! One time a disgruntled lounge customer just couldnt understand why I sought these songs and played them. "Those songs belong in a museum," he exclaimed. And sure enough, I have proudly performed these songs in many museums, including Library of Congress, Museum of Modern Art and the Museum of The City of New York."

Each song is performed on the restored Steinway concert grand that once belonged to composer Dana Suesse (1909-1987).

Highlights will be songs from Hollywood movies, Broadway in the 1920s and 30s and independent songs from Tin Pan Alley. Mintun met several of his favorite writers, such as Johnny Green, Harry Warren, Edward Heyman, Ira Gershwin, Dana Suesse, Kay Swift and Harold Spina. Subscribers to the channel (which is free) will be notified of additions. By selecting playlist viewers may hear several songs in a row. A brief introduction will precede each musical selection. Mintun currently appears in concerts around the country, and has played such venues at Bemelmans Bar in the Hotel Carlyle, The Greenbrier Resort, and San Francisco's Huntington and Fairmont Hotels.

Edna Fischer loved to teach this song to her voice students. I had the pleasure of performing this and others for the composer himself, back in 1973.

My piano teacher, Lee Green, composed this song in the 1970s with lyrics by his wife, Virginia Haig.

I'm a new fan to Gershwin (heard Michael Feinstein play Swanee and other songs on PBS) and these older pianists, but it's so great to hear 'em! Thank you for taking the time to upload these songs. It's awesome, it truly is. :D

I just stumbled upon your "stuff"- GREAT stuff! I immediately subscribed. I do a similar thing as you do only I do it for ukulele players to be able to play these great old tunes. I especially like finding the "lost" intros and verses. Thanks to you I'll be working on "There's No Depression In Love" soon.

First of all let me thank you for introducing me to so many wonderful songs I didn't know existed. Such beautiful music ~ thank you for sharing.
Secondly -- I'm looking forward to attending your concert at Sanfillipp's Victorian Palace in July. Would it be possible that you could play one of the following: You're Such a Comfort To Me, my favorite of Dana Suesse....Whistling in the Dark, or the Gordon & Revel song intro'd by Alice Faye: When I'm With You? Thank you.

It's like being in a piano bar without the high prices and $10 cup of coffee plus cover charge. :) I have a request. Could you play the title music from the 50/60s movie "Marjorie Morningstar?" Thank You! I am listening to your play while I'm at work late at night/early in the morning. :)
