Politics should be a vocation, not a profession. Unfortunately the high salaries and generous allowances available in government have attracted some with more self-serving ends.

The extent of the scandal exposed recently, and, more worryingly, the MPs refusal to repay their drawings, or even to admit wrongdoing, has greatly shaken the publics confidence in their leadership, turning us off politics.

This is the real issue, as weakness in the major parties allows extremists to gain support. It scares me that Nick Griffin can even use a phrase like all of us.
