hobgog956, didn't you watch the video? This nation WAS a Republic (established by Laws) but now it is evolving into a democratic republic where majorities and even in some cases, MINORITY groups (meaning smaller, not racial minorities) are forcing their views on the rest. It's being done through legislation, but it is because of corrupt politicians seeking power are the very ones REWRITING the law

Try to comprehend and retain the information in this video. It explains it all.

Is this some kind of propaganda to get Americans to really love having a private, non-democratic Federal Reserve, or support a strong unitary executive? Why does Pat Buchanan promote this talking point too? Will I get an answer from one of the employees from minitrue?

isn't america BOTH a repersatative democracy and a republic?

Kharmozov. This is a 10 min explanation. The people are still involved, we are a democratic republic. Also, he was refering to how the left and right is viewed now on the spectrum, not starting a discussion on the roots of the spectrum. In this discussion, who cares where it came from, people at this current point in history have misconceptions (or perhaps only vague or no conceptions if we're talking about people educated in our system) when looking at political history.

Further more your own constistution begins with the words"We the people.." wich by itself designates the lawgiver,American Nation(in form of parliment, selected in elections),thus stating the fact that US is
a democracy;-)

No offence but your video despite being nicely done is bunch mumbo-jumbo.First of all wehere the heck did you came up with an idea to base your clasification of left/right mearly on the fact who performs function of an lawgiver in the system? The Left/right division historically has its roots in French National asseambly held just before the revolution where the kings staunch supporters had a seat on the right side while his most radicall oponents on the far left. Thus came the clasification of future political parties as right-conservative,leftprogressive/liberal.

Excellent Video.

@larsonite: at the very beginning the author of this video doesn't even mention Conservatives and Liberals, nor does he associate them with "Left" and "Right". This is a clear and concise introduction to where our government came from and the options that were given to the Founders of the USA.

@Weiszguy - Yes, our Founding Fathers needed to vote in a democratic way at some point, but at the end they chose (this is the key) to found a Republic and start the creation of laws. It does have to start some place, and the Founding Fathers chose this method.

I don't claim to be a historian, historical buff, or anything other than a plain American. I do the best I can with the knowledge I have.
