Nodan's teacher possessed extraordinary abilities that he said were given to him by the "Martial Spirit." While he was practicing kata in his dojo, a powerful energy suddenly entered his body accompanied by a voice asking him, "Do you want it to stop?" He accepted the Martial Spirit's offer that day and became "Sensei," the most powerful martial artist Nodan had ever seen.
Nodan trained with Sensei and sought
his own enlightenment experience. After much philosophical study, deep meditation, and contacts with spirit mediums, he became filled with a demonic spirit of awesome ferocity and strength. Nodan perceived this occult power to be evil and he rejected it. He soon realized, however, that he could not make the demon leave his body. At the same time, he found himself in the Void, a place of outer darkness where nothing existed except his conscious mind. This dimension of reality had no time. . . it was an eternal "now." Thus, fearing separation from all that was good, he surrendered his ego and pride to God, through the Spirit of Jesus the Messiah. In so doing, he suffered a psychic death when his self identity as a martial artist was literally drained from his hara. Then, after a brief moment, a profound Spirit of Love poured in from above and filled the empty space. . . and the demonic presence was forced to leave him. Nodan hoped his testimony would inspire others to seek God's love and peace in their own lives.
The martial arts can be a positive or a negative experience, depending on the intentions of the practitioner. Nodan's ego driven quest for power beyond his natural physical abilities led him into realms of darkness. In the end, he came to see that Love was the true power of the way.
