The 2012 legislative session is in full swing and New Mexico in Focus has been following it closely. Correspondent Gwyneth Doland reports on efforts to reform the Public Regulation Commission and talks to leaders on both sides of the aisle about competing efforts to reform the state's tax structure. NMiF begins a series of reports on groups that are finding ways to address many of the problems lawmakers hope to solve...but doing it outside the halls of government. Diane Burke of Central New Mexico Community College is our guest.

The 2012 legislative session has begun and New Mexico in Focus is all over it. Host Gene Grant moderates a panel of former heavy hitters in Santa Fe as they react to the State of the State address by Governor Susana Martinez. NMiF will highlight key points of the speech.
Correspondent Gwyneth Doland reports from Santa Fe on what leaders from both sides of the aisle expect from the session. Lawmakers from Grants to Portales and Roswell to Belen reveal what's ahead as new political districts are drawn in a key election year.
The Line panel looks at the impact Speaker of the House Ben Lujan has on lawmaking in Santa Fe. The Speaker announced on Tuesday he'll step down after this term as he continues to battle lung cancer. Regular panelists Dan Foley and Sophie Martin are joined by returning guests Larry Ahrens and John Wertheim.

Atwood is joined by her longtime partner Graeme Gibson, also an accomplished author. The literary duo will talk about their latest works, both of which focus on humankinds relationship to the environment. Also this week, our LINE panelists take up the controversy over New Mexicos noncompliance with the national REAL ID Act, a new round of ethics reform proposals, and a proposal to tie teens ability to get a drivers license to their report cards.

Hes making the rounds and making headlines as the honorary chairman of a new political organization known as the Our America Initiative. But does that mean hes laying the groundwork for a presidential run in 2012? NMiF Correspondent Sarah Gustavus asks him that question and more in an exclusive one-on-one interview. Plus, The Director of the White House Initiative on Education Excellence for Hispanic Americans talks only to NMiF about the newly proposed changes to No Child Left Behind.
