gold is a metal that isn't really useful for that much at a high price, and can be mined. Gold can easily as result have inflated bubbles.

If you bought gold in 1980 and sold it in 2000 you may have lost half your money not even counting inflation... similar argument to housing.

Euro has just as much risk as US dollar for similar reasons. Gold... is only valuable if people think it is, can easily become worthless, has dropped massive amounts in past, can also be mined much faster if price goes up.
