Elaine's Physics and Philosophy
My feeble attempts at science and philosophy discussions and/or responses to other discussions.
Electronic Music Geekdom
I will post anything I do as far as instructional videos or presentations, or documenting things such as building or modifying stuff. My main interests are in alternate tunings and controllers, fractal-generated (chaos) music, and making unusual sounds.. but also taking these elements and shaping them into a form of a pop song (or... not).
ZIA videos
Videos of the electronic-pro-space-pop band ZIA (1992-present), plus other Elaine Walker videos, including her band Number Sine from 2007.
AXIS keyboard for Bohlen-Pierce Scale
C-Thru Music has lent me this keyboard, called the AXIS, for a few months, and I am rearranging the keys for the Bohlen-Pierce Scale, a macrotuning based on a 3/1 frequency ratio, divided by 13 equal steps. See http://www.ziaspace.com/elaine<wbr>/BP for research on the BP Scale.
This particular AXIS toured with the Lionel Richie Band on loan, went to me, and in two weeks I will be flying to Boston to give this AXIS to the Berklee College of Music, Synthesis Department - namely to Dr. Boulanger who will use it for his classes and for the new microtonal club.
I teach Electronic Music at Scottsdale Community College. Come join the fun!
Bohlen-Pierce Scale Symposium, Boston 2010
There has been enough interest lately in the Bohlen-Pierce Scale - a macrotonal musical tuning system based on a 3/1 frame (three times the frequency, called a "tritave", as opposed to the 2/1 "octave") divided by 13 equal steps - that an entire symposium was organized in Boston. It included the support of three major music educational institutions - Berklee College of Music, the Goethe Institute and New England Conservatory. Heinz Bohlen and Max Mathews skyped in at various times. It included three full days of talks and three full nights of music.
I will type more information here soon and upload more videos as I get them digitized. Professional cameras were covering the entire symposium. Here I will just upload what I captured on my own camera.
This symposium was very overwhelming for me, thinking I was among just a handful of interested BP fans. There were at least 40 people actively involved in this event and many more in the audience!
