Rise Up Singing Project vol.4
On this Vlog I'm recording and uploading songs from the Rise Up Singing songbook, which you may or may not know. It's a large collection of chords and lyrics to folk songs, topical songs, children's songs and rounds as well as some showtunes and country, rock, blues songs all meant to be sung aloud in groups. It's a pretty invaluable resource to songleaders, and useful for anyone who likes to sing in groups.
For reasons of space and copyright, Rise Up Singing doesn't include the melodies or sheet music to the songs, just the lyrics and some chords, so if you've heard the song before, you can sing it. If you haven't you're stuck until you find someone who does. 3 days after starting this, I learned that Annie Patterson (co-editor with Peter Blood) has actually already recorded ALL 1200 songs herself, and you can buy her 20-CD set for 200$ (or 12$ per CD) on quakersong.org. It took Annie 3 whole years to do it, and she edited the book, so I support supporting her, if you see what I mean, and for real accuracy and quality, you should get the CDs, but I'm still going to give it a shot and see if I can't do it slo-and-lo-fi for free.
I know only a small portion of the songs in the book now, and so I'm trying hard to dig up tunes or recordings and to record them myself so that anyone can have access to them online. If you know any yourself, please put them up. Together we'd get it done a lot quicker.
