MATHCOUNTS - Helping Students Who Love Math

2,296 views 8 months ago
The MATHCOUNTS Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that strives to engage middle school students of all ability and interest levels in fun, challenging math programs, in order to expand their academic and professional opportunities. Middle school students exist at a critical juncture in which their love for mathematics must be nurtured, or their fear of mathematics must be overcome. MATHCOUNTS provides students with the kinds of experiences that foster growth and transcend fear to lay a foundation for future success.

For more than 30 years MATHCOUNTS has provided enriching, extracurricular opportunities to students and free, high-quality resources to educators. Every child is unique, but we believe all children are capable of seeing the beauty and joy of math, whether they come to us already passionate about math, or intimidated by it.

There are many paths to math. We work to ensure that all students discover theirs.

MATHCOUNTS Minis Play

Educational math videos with student worksheets.

MATHCOUNTS has been working with Art of Problem Solving's Richard Rusczyk to create detailed web videos focusing on actual MATHCOUNTS problems. Each MATHCOUNTS Mini will focus on at least one MATHCOUNTS problem and associated concepts. Each Mini will also feature a worksheet to complement the discussed concepts. Every month MATHCOUNTS and Art of Problem Solving will feature a new video and archive the old.

Math Video Challenge Play

Videos from the Math Video Challenge

The Math Video Challenge is an innovative program involving teams of students to create educational videos about math problems and their associated concepts. The video competition is meant to excite students about the subject of mathematics through this challenge. Participants are encouraged to be creative in their video concepts, allowing them to practice not only their math skills, but broaden their communication skills, as well.

Each video submission must teach the solution to a selected problem while demonstrating the real-world application of the math concept used in the problem-- a task every good teacher encounters when developing lesson plans!
