Mateus Schäffer, nascido no dia 15/10/79 iniciou cedo no mundo musical: aos 6 anos ingressou nas aulas particulares de piano e aos 11 fez da guitarra o veículo para expressar sua musicalidade. Autodidata no instrumento, retirou das suas primeiras influências (The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Queen, Deep Purple...) verdadeiras aulas de como um guitarrista deveria soar. Precoce, aos 14 anos já se apresentava profissionalmente e chamava atenção por executar solos fiéis de grandes nomes do Rock. Passada a adolescência, Mateus sentiu a necessidade de absorver outras influências musicais, encantou-se com a música de Tom Jobim, Djavan, Ed Motta (entre muitos outros grandes nomes da música brasileira) além do Funk, Fusion, Jazz e Blues que proporcionaram ainda mais flexibilidade e versatilidade ao estilo do guitarrista. Com essa bagagem, Mateus está apto a transitar por diversos estilos musicais sem maiores problemas, sempre colocando sua marca pessoal. Hoje, Mateus é um profissional bem reconhecido pelo seu trabalho e não quer parar tão cedo: além de ser o guitarrista da banda Zawajus (conhecida banda de Santa Catarina) desde 2002, ministra aulas de guitarra e está em fase de pré-produção de seu primeiro Cd instrumental onde mesclará todas as suas influências. Em maio de 2007 Mateus foi o segundo colocado no concurso nacional de guitarristas Gibson Contest em São Paulo. Mais de 750 gravações de vários guitaristas do Brasil foram enviadas para o Instituto de Guitarra e Tecnologia (IG&T) para seleção. Mateus foi um dos 12 finalistas, se apresentou na capital paulista e terminou em segundo lugar com sua versão instrumental para Samurai (Djavan). "O segundo colocado, Mateus Schäffer de São José (SC), interpretou Samurai (Djavan). Ele revelou sua elegância e técnica, com frases no estilo de Lee Ritenour. Destacou-se também pelo timing e suingue de mão direita. Mateus ganhou uma Epiphone Les Paul Custom." Always an autodidact, he used his influences (The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Queen, Deep Purple) to learn how a guitar player should sound like. Foward for his age, at 14 he already took the stage in professional gigs and drawed attention for executing difficult solos from the Masters of Rock. His adolescence being over, Mateus felt the need to assimilate other musical influences. He got mesmerised with Tom Jobim, Djavan, Ed Motta (among many other great names in Brazilian music), in addition to Funk, Fusion, Jazz and Blues, which provided even more flexibility and versatility to his music style. Due to this extensive musical baggage, Mateus is able to swiftly change styles, always leaving his personal distinguishing mark. Today, Mateus is well-known for his work and doesn't want to stop too soon: besides being lead guitarrist in the band Zawajus (famous Santa Catarina band) since 2002, he teaches guitar and is in the pre-production phase of the recording of his first instrumental CD, where he will mingle all his influences. In May, 2007, Mateus finished second in the national Gibson Guitar Contest, in São Paulo. More than 750 pieces of recordings were sent to the Technology and Guitar Institute (IG&T, in São Paulo). Mateus turned out as one of the top 12 and played in São Paulo to conquer the second place in the contest, with his instrumental version of Samurai (Djavan).
