A Short video of the triple expansion steam engined heritage tugboat SS Master getting underway for Maple Bay, British Columbia in 2003. She was built in 1922 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The Triple Expansion Engine was built by William Beardmore & Company, of Coatbridge Scotland for a World War 1 Royal Navy Minesweeper that was to be equiped with two such engines, but never completed.
The SS Master is the sole remaining wooden hulled steam powered tugboat of Her type in North America, and an important part of the maritime heritage of the Province of British Columbia. During Her days of service She hauled barges of Coal, Building Materials and log booms of timber up and down the west coast, and transitted as far as San Franciso and as far north as Alaska. She also hauled all the limestone that was used to construct the the present day Fairmount Hotel Vancouver. ( Camera Footage Courtesy of Peter Blue )
