THE VENUS SYNDROME: Top Climate scientist, James Hansen, recently found that if we burn all fossil fuels, we would tip us into runaway warming & the end to all life on planet earth. See esp page 24 of: http://www.columbia.edu/~je...

Been interested in mitigating global warming since 1990, and have reduced our greenhouse gases by one-half cost effectively (we are now on Green Mountain wind energy - www.greenmountain.com ).

Here's RealClimate(dot)org's latest: "Did you know that in 1965 the U.S. Department of Agriculture planted a particular variety of lilac in more than seventy locations around the U.S. Northeast, to detect the onset of spring — in turn to be used to determine the appropriate timing of corn planting and the like? The records the USDA have kept show that those same lilacs are blooming as much as two weeks earlier than they did in 1965. April has, in a very real sense, become May." Too bad a freak cold snap then comes & kills the plants :(

Well, Derek, there are several possibilities -- (1) GW may increase wild swings in weather & perhpas give us cold snaps late into spring; (2) the ocean conveyor is slowing, bringing less warm water up the northeast coast, so the climate there may actually get a bit colder (tho I don't know if that wd affect PA); (3) GW has to do with GLOBAL AVERAGE temps -- if you don't know what "average" (mean) means you can get a basic stat book and find out. Or, ask the scientists at RealClimate(dot)org

I am real glad for Global Warming, we are having 30's here in PA, hmm I don't want to think of how cold it would really be without it.

Just saw a video about how Gore has terribly misled us (I knew as much) -- by grossly UNDERESTIMATING global warming. Anyway, I strongly suggest you see Hansen's lecture on the Venus Syndrome (link in my upper left column), and esp see page 24, which sums it up well: If we burn all the fossil fuels we will tip the world into runaway warming, as on Venus, in which all life on earth will come to an end. It is failure to mitigate GW (not mitigating GW) that will destroy capitalism AND political freedoms. Refusing to mitigate seems to me a plot by the power-hungry fascists who want to control the world and destroy capitalism.

sorry, missie....the runner doesn't give up his Hummer for anyone......:)

fossil fuels are self replenishing......I burn in my Hummer fuel that was living matter when my parents were born.......

lynn.....global warming is a myth.....specifically designed to undermine free market capitalism.......and, of course.....to make fools out of dupes like you......:)

Liked your post on Cosmi's channel..although the Sun will last a lot longer than a billion years (about 5-7 billion, before it starts to run out of hydrogen)..but you're right regarding the Venus model..no-one knows exactly why Venus is like it is..it could of been a warming (for some reason), that evaporated any water on the planet, which in turn kept increasing the greenhouse effect, and so on..that's one theory..

Thanks. I've always believed in evolution. Learned it in Sunday School & I later became an anthropologist. I read a lot about it in hi schl, & thought wow God's much greater than I could imagine. God doesn't have to be the ID director or intervener when all is God, all is of God--even the slime soup from which we evolved. What happens in nature we can be scientifically understood. As for the spiritual dimension (beyond our empirical knowledge) we can only have a tiny glimpse or inkling.

Just read your comment on DonExodus2's channel regarding evolution. Thanks for being a theist with a brain.
