About Lake Illawarra MAP Project
The Lake Illawarra MAP (Memory And Place) Project showcases 51 dynamic and inspiring digital stories that have been produced by people who live in the catchment of Lake Illawarra, NSW Australia. This collection of films are reflections and memories of the Lake as a place of work, play, holiday and home.
Over 40 people have worked with experienced writers and film makers to produce digital stories: short (2 - 4 minute) films that feature on this channel. These digital stories feature many beautiful images captured as part of peoples own family histories but seldom seen outside their family albums. Other films use animation, reenactments and illustrations to reveal personal perspectives of the Lake and the lives of those who live around her.
A dance hall on Gooseberry Island, a violent storm and drowning, fishing yarns, childhood pranks, love stories, a plant that exists nowhere else on the planet - these are just a taste of the stories you will see on this channel.
Come and share in the collective memory of the Lake as seen through the moving image. These digital stories allow us to reflect about we need to do to look after our heritage and environment: the places where we live.
