Street Fighter 4 Nationals - Daigo Umehara Interview iplaywinner - 9,631 views - 2 months ago
Crackfiend and the crew spend a little time asking Daigo some questions about the game. Sorry about the audio quality- it was loud as hell in there! Check the transcript below.
http://www.iplaywinner.com Transcript: 1st Question from Anthony: How does the competition in Japan compare to the United States? [Shino Translation: The venue is definitely bigger in the states, but in number, though I dont know the size of this event, I think you see more people at events like this one in Japan. What I really like about in the US is though the fans know how to create an exciting atmosphere for the players. ] [Oichi Translation: he said that the is US strong but Japan has more players and US get more riled up for events like this and said it's good that they get that way] Daigo/Shino: There are more competitors in the USA but more "number 1's" gather in Japan... (?).. and he hopes to see more people later on.. there are more fans that gather here and gives them the opportunity to do their best. [iPlayWinner Notes: Seems he doesnt really know about the competition in the USA yet but likes the fact that there are so many fans and people looking to play it so it will help people get better.] 2nd Question: Richard Li: Who is your biggest threat in Japan and who is your biggest threat in the USA? Shiuno: In this game? Richard Li: Yes Street Fighter 4. Daigo: Dosent know the big players in USA so has no answer, but dosent know who his main threat is in Japan either. [Oichi Translation: I know the rival question he says he doesn't know for overseas, and Japan he's like "...I don't really know who, that's tough to say" it's kinda like he's saying there's too many to name one person] Richard Li: What about Iyo? Daigo: Haha sure. Haunts Question: Whats the number one thing you can do to get better in Street Fighter? Shino: Thats a difficult question! Shino: Is there a grappling system? Richard Li: Oh throwing! Daigo/Shino: He doesnt like that system and the trick, but its very important so if you can nail that you will do well in this game. Haunts: So throwing is the best thing you can learn, ok! [Oichi Translation: for the throwing system it seems that he is talking not only about throwing itself but throw escaping as well i.e. knowing when to escape, how to do option select, etc.] [Shino Notes: Throwing is referred to as the grappling system in Japan. Daigo thinks it works against the beauty of fighting games and dislikes it What does he mean? Stay tuned for more on Capcom Unity...?] Anthony Question 4: Why did you come back to play Street Fighter 4? Daigo/Shino: As you know he has stayed away from fighting games for a while, but he decided to come back because its the latest title from CAPCOM, fighting game from CAPCOM, the games CAPCOM is known for. He wanted to see how it worked for him and it works well for him so he continues to play it becuase he enjoys it!

http://www.iplaywinner.com

Transcript:

Haunts Question 1:

Do you play on XBOX live at all or do yo uonly play in the arcade?

Iyo/Shino Answer: He sometimes plays on Xbox Live

Haunts Question 2: Can you still find good competition on there like in the arcade or is it just for fun?

Iyo/Shino Answer: there are many players out ther eon XBOX live so he can compete against so many players on there so it is comparable to playing in the arcade.

Haunts Question 3: Whats the #1 thing you can do to get better at Street Fighter?

Iyo/Shino Answer: he's been asked so many times this question ever since he became the Champion and he has never been able to answer this question.

Haunts: So its a secret!?

Crackfiend Question: How difficult was the transition from CVS2 to Street Fighter 4?

[Questions about Game title]

Iyo/Shino Answer: When he started to play CVS2 he was recognized and enjoyed it very much, but when he first started with SFIV he wasnt very good at it. The friends he made through previous games helped him get better at it. At first he was very bad and didn't want to play but as he got better he started to enjoy the game more.

Crackfiend Question 2: What is your motivation to continue to play Street Fighter?

Iyo/Shino Answer: There are a couple reasons: One there are so many people playing this game, he has so many opponents to play against. People he used to play but also new people who are playing. The second reason is he hasnt completed what he can do in Street Fighter 4 so he can always improve his skills.
