About this user

I am a piano and organ player with a primary style rooted in jazz, motown and blues. I am mostly self-taught and have been playing for over 8 years as a professional playing diverse styles including 70s Funk, R&B and more recently contemporary jazz.

Gigging and teaching make up the main part of my current work. Apart from the usual wedding & corporate function gigs, I'm currently involved in two bands - Yumetori (pop/R&B) and Squirrelsoup (contemporary jazz). With these two groups I share my penchant for reharmonisation and re-arrangement, epsecially with odd meter.

I have been teaching pop & jazz piano for 4 years now. My teaching style provokes students to think and to react to the music in their playing. I place emphasis on catching grooves and improvising around them. I also spend lots of time developing each student's ability to listen to recordings and to play them by ear. I take in students of all backgounds - from complete beginners to pianists with classical piano diplomas, as well as church musicians.
