About Me:

At High Point University, every student receives an extraordinary education in an inspiring environment with caring people. HPU, located in North Carolina's Piedmont Triad, is a liberal arts institution with 3,350 undergraduate and graduate students from 51 countries and 46 states.

HPU is ranked by US News and World Report No. 3 among comprehensive universities in the South and No. 1 in its category among up-and-coming schools. The university has also been ranked in the top 7% of colleges and universities across the nation as part of the Forbes.com inaugural list of America's Best Colleges and in the top 25 schools on Parade Magazine's A-List.

The university offers 68 undergraduate majors, 40 undergraduate minors and eight graduate degree programs. Most recently, majors in Graphic Design and Biochemistry have been added.

Starting in August 2010, students will experience a revamped core curriculum. One aspect will be a transition to four-credit-hour courses, which will create more flexibility. HPU will be able to offer more or less credit for such courses as service learning, internship opportunities, study abroad, student-faculty collaborative research and more. Students will also have more choices for courses that satisfy core requirements. A freshman seminar and Maymester will be implemented as well.

Organizations with which HPU students have interned include: BB&T, MSNBC, La-Z-Boy, Terrorism Research Center (Washington, D.C.), MTV Networks (New York), AVP Pro Volleyball tour, NASCAR, NHL, International Home Furnishings Market, American Friends Service Committee, Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center and many more. The Study Abroad program has tripled in size to include opportunities in England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, France, Spain, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Ecuador, China, Turkey (new), Australia (new), Japan (new) and Fiji (new).

HPU is committed to offering students an education grounded in the development of character, personal responsibility and a sense of civic duty. During the 2008-09 academic year, students completed more than 27,000 hours of community service. In addition, HPU's 2008 United Way Commitment reached a total of $109,219.44, a 9 percent increase over 2007 and a 189 percent increase over 2005.

A campus transformation was implemented in 2005; since then, HPU has completed or is constructing 28 new buildings and two stadiums. HPU has also invested $20 million in technology over the past three years; the entire campus now has wireless Internet access, including remote locations such as the Village, all outside areas and all buildings.

HPU is a member of the NCAA (Division I) and the Big South Conference. The university has 15 Division I athletic teams, in addition to many Club Sports teams and Intramural teams in lacrosse, swimming, flag football and more. More than half of the university's student-athletes carry an academic grade point average of 3.0 or greater, which ranks HPU in the No. 1 spot among all institutions in the Big South Conference. Scores from athletic events run on ESPN, Fox, CNN and ESPN2 sports tickers and can be found in every U.S. newspaper.

HPU is accredited by the Commission of Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

I LOVE High Point University!! My daughter graduates this year and I am proud that this will be her alma mater. Dr. Qubein is the best! Great, great place to send your kids to college.

As always it's the attention to detail, the little extras that HPU does under it's wonderful leadership that inspired our daughter to choose after visiting 20+ colleges. No wonder she chose HPU. It's videos done and sent at appropriate times such as Thanksgiving that inspires young men and women to choose HPU. Jobs well done, over and over!!

My alma mater! This makes me proud because back in my day we were definitely NOT known for our basketball program! Baseball was our big sport in the '70s.
