I have one axe to grind with GoogleEarth. You used to be able to control where the cache data was stored. Then they took that ability away. WTF! I used that to improve performance! Who is the genius who *&%$@ that up?

Google Earth is good software, but also try World Wind made by NASA: Graphics are far more better dan Google Earth's, but World Wind doesnt have so much hi-res photo's
